You certainly heard about it already, given the buzz going around the new cat from Lagoon: the first sailing catamaran equipped with a hybrid propulsion system made of 2 electrical motors linked to a huge battery bank. Some kind of floating Toyota Prius.

Nevertheless, there’s still a conventional diesel generator on the vessel, which automatically starts to load up the batteries should their voltage go below a certain level.
According to certain sources, it seems however that the said generator would use twice as much as fuel than an equivalent size catamaran equipped with twin diesel conventional engines.
